Gift Acceptance Policy

Purpose of the Policy The purpose of this Gift Acceptance Policy is to establish guidelines for the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation (CTHF) regarding the types of gifts that can be accepted and the process for acceptance. This policy ensures that all gifts contribute towards the fulfillment of CTHF’s mission and are not encumbered with conditions that may hinder the Foundation’s goals or values.

Types of Gifts Accepted

  1. Cash and Cash Equivalents: CTHF accepts cash, checks, money orders, and credit card transactions.
  2. Securities: Marketable securities may be transferred to CTHF’s brokerage account.
  3. Real Estate: Real estate gifts must be reviewed by CTHF’s legal counsel for environmental and marketability issues.
  4. Tangible Personal Property: Gifts of personal property, including vehicles and equipment, will be accepted upon review of their relevance to CTHF’s mission and ease of liquidation.
  5. Planned Gifts: Bequests, trusts, and other planned gifts are welcomed and will be coordinated with the donor’s financial advisors.

Gifts Generally Not Accepted

  1. Items with Undue Restrictions: Gifts that come with restrictions that prevent CTHF from freely pursuing its mission will not be accepted.
  2. Items with Excessive Costs: Gifts that may expose CTHF to liability or are accompanied by financial or other obligations will generally not be accepted without thorough review.
  3. Non-liquid Assets: Non-liquid assets that cannot be easily converted into cash or used by CTHF will not be accepted unless a plan for liquidation is agreed upon.

Gift Review Process

  1. Initial Assessment: All non-standard gifts must undergo an initial assessment by CTHF staff to determine alignment with CTHF’s mission and policies.
  2. Legal and Financial Review: Gifts that pass the initial assessment will be reviewed by legal and financial advisors for any potential liabilities or implications.
  3. Board Approval: Final acceptance of non-standard gifts requires approval by quorum vote of the Board of Directors.

Acknowledgment and Recognition All gifts will be acknowledged in a timely manner with a receipt for tax purposes. Donors will be recognized according to CTHF’s donor recognition policies, unless anonymity is requested.

Amendments to the Policy This policy may be amended by a quorum vote by the Board of Directors as necessary to ensure it remains aligned with CTHF’s mission and responsive to changes in the legal and financial landscape.
